Sarah Hempel Irani
Sarah Hempel Irani studied art in the classical tradition at Hillsdale College in
Hillsdale, Michigan.  After graduation, she came to Maryland to work as an apprentice
to a renowned sculptor in the region.  Sarah began to establish her own studio in less
than a year after graduation and was chosen for a commission to create the fourteen
Stations of the Cross for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac.  When the
work was installed, she submitted her portfolio to The National Sculpture Competition
and was one of ten sculptors chosen to compete in the week-long figure modeling
contest hosted by Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts.  On the basis of her portfolio, the
National Sculpture Society awarded her the Edward Fenno Hoffman Prize as the "young
sculptor who strives to uplift the human spirit through the medium of her art."

Currently, Sarah is preparing for the installation of two over-life-size marble figures of
St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary for Our Lady of Mercy. She also works for
Dorfman Museum Figures, sculpting life-like portraits.  The Museum Figures company
provides realistic “wax figures” made of vinyl for museums and displays around the
globe. In addition to all of this and working to complete her Master of Arts degree in
Renaissance and Medieval Studies, she acts as the Coordinator of Visual Resources at
Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
